SUPERVISOR NATHAN FLETCHER LAUNCHES ‘SALUTE OUR VETERANS’ AWARDS

On the hangar deck of the USS Midway, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced his office’s new Salute Our Veterans award to honor and recognize the contributions veteran community leaders, veteran-owned small businesses and nonprofits that support veterans make in San Diego County.
“Once veterans have served their country many go on to serve their community; and I want to recognize some of the individuals and organizations who are going above and beyond the call of community service,” said Chair Fletcher, a United States Marine Corps combat veteran.
Below is the criteria for each award. Nominations must be submitted by Wednesday, October 26 and can be made at www.SupervisorNathanFletcher.com/Veterans.

Veteran Community Leader Award: An individual veteran who after serving our country in the military, continues serving our community by using their knowledge, skills and passion for community to support local initiatives, efforts, or organizations that make San Diego County a better place to live.

Veteran-Owned Small Business Award: A small business owner who once served our Country, but is now making a difference by providing goods and services to area residents and goes above and beyond with their support of veterans and our community.

Veteran Non-profit Award: A non-profit or agency whose mission is to provide services that uplift and improve the quality of life for veterans in San Diego County.
During the press conference, Wilfred Quintong from the County’s Office of Military and Veteran Affairs highlighted a series of support services available through the County to serve veterans, including comprehensive VA benefits counseling, VA disability claims preparation and submission, claims follow-up, initiate appeals, Veteran driver's license application support, CalVET college fee waiver application support, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, and CalWORKS enrollment assistance, housing, and networking & advocacy with federal, state, and local agencies.
