More than 200 people marked the reopening of San Diego County with live music and breakfast burritos at the Hall of Administration early Tuesday morning. The event celebrated a return to public life after more than a year of lockdowns amid the pandemic.
“The last year has tested us; it has tried us,” Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher said. “Today we really appreciate the lifting of the tiers.”
Guests said they were happy to take part in a large group event again, noting the months of effort required to get there.
“We want to celebrate what we’ve done lowering COVID-19 rates in San Diego County,” said Eyal Oren, director of the Public Health Department at San Diego State University. “We’ve come a long way that we can have this kind of function safely.”
