Supervisor Fletcher Ushers in Pride Weekend in San Diego County

07/08/19

County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher is set to usher in San Diego Pride weekend with a special proclamation tomorrow, and light-up the County Administration Center (CAC) in rainbow colors on Thursday. The event Thursday night will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and recognize individuals that have worked tirelessly to advance LGBTQ equality and dignity.

“San Diego Pride is a cultural celebration and this year we honor the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a turning point in the LGBTQ rights movement,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “In San Diego we are incredibly lucky to have such a diverse LGBTQ community that is reflected in every sector of our county from our elected officials, the private sector, nonprofits, and even here among our county leadership.

“The activities my office has planned, and our participation in the San Diego Pride Parade, is our way of saying thank you to the LGBTQ community and recognizing the successes and struggles of last five decades,” the Supervisor concluded.

Tomorrow, Tues., July 9, 2019 during the 9:00 a.m. Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Fletcher will present a proclamation to San Diego Pride Executive Director Fernando Z. Lopez, Jr. for their vision and leadership of Pride, which fosters equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally.

“This is the first time the San Diego Pride organization or its leadership have been recognized by the County of San Diego and I want to thank Supervisor Fletcher for pushing the County to support this weekend’s Pride activities,” said Lopez. “We are looking forward to a fun, safe and absolutely amazing celebration of the LGBTQ community. We look forward to seeing the city come alive with San Diego Pride!”
