PROGRESS CONTINUES WITH THE CREATION OF COMMUNITY-BASED GUN VIOLENCE REDUCTION PROGRAM FOR SAN DIEGO COUNTY
Earlier this year Chair Nathan Fletcher’s policy to reduce the proliferation of ghost guns and require the use of safe gun storage devices took effect; and today the Board of Supervisors accepted an update on the third policy in the package, to create a community-informed gun violence reduction program in San Diego County.
Chair Fletcher released the following statement after today's affirmative vote:
“We took another important step forward in developing an actionable gun violence reduction program,” said Chair Fletcher. “Consulting with community organizations that are leading the charge to reduce gun violence in our neighborhoods ensures the future County program will have a lasting and substantive impact on our region.”
The community-based organizations that were represented in the Working Group included: Hope and Heal Fund, NeverAgainCA, Open Heart Leaders, San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention, San Diego Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention, Shapat Outreach, and the Tariq Khamisa Foundation.
