CHAIR FLETCHER: NEW MTS PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENT POLICY TO SUPPORT WORKING FAMILIES
10/14/21
Today, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Board of Directors approved a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) policy, which directs staff to begin negotiations on a comprehensive PLA with the San Diego County Building & Construction Trades Council. The PLA will apply to MTS projects over $1 million.
Nathan Fletcher, Chair of MTS and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, issued the following statement after today’s vote:
"Today's action prioritizes working families and ensures that our agency is joining others to ensure all San Diegans can join the middle class. This is another step toward creating a more equitable future for San Diegans and I want to thank my colleagues on the Board and the MTS staff for their support.”
A PLA is an agreement between a public agency planning to authorize and fund a construction project and the unions that represent the pools of skilled labor that are needed for that project. A PLA spells out the specific terms and conditions that govern the employment of labor on a project for the duration of the project.
