Mission Accomplished: Chair Fletcher Delivers Community Choice Energy after Years of Hard Work
Chair Nathan Fletcher & the Board of Supervisors delivered on bringing a better future for our environment and more choice for the ratepayers of San Diego County by voting today to join San Diego Community Power , the state's second-largest community choice energy program.
In February of 2019, in just his second month in office, Chair Fletcher along with then-Supervisor Dianne Jacob passed the landmark Community Choice Energy policy for the county that set in motion a series of actions that brought the Board to today’s decision to go with San Diego Community Power.
“Our mission to align San Diego County with a community choice energy provider has been accomplished. This is a very important step in advancing our framework for the future — prioritizing climate justice, equity, and local, good green union jobs,” said Chair Fletcher. “After years of study and thoughtful analysis, we have made a decision that will support protecting our environment and give ratepayers more choice in energy providers.
“I appreciate our environmental justice allies for their advocacy and support, and thank Supervisor Dianne Jacob for her many years of leadership on community choice energy.”
Joining San Diego Community Power aligns with Chair Nathan Fletcher’s Framework for the Future of San Diego County . The Framework prioritizes communities and populations in San Diego that have been historically left behind. Through this Framework, Chair Fletcher is fighting for racial justice, health equity, economic opportunity, environmental protection, government transparency, and fundamental changes to county operations.
