Divided county Board of Supervisors votes to support federal police reform bill

Board Chairman Nathan Fletcher, who brought forward the item, said Floyd’s killing highlighted racial disparities in policing and a deep distrust in law enforcement among communities of color. He said the board’s action sends a message that the county believes racial injustice is wrong and reinforces the county’s commitment to rooting out racism. He noted the board declared racism a public health crisis earlier this year.
