Supervisor Fletcher Praises County Decision To Not Appeal Court Decision on Climate Action Plan
The Board of Supervisors, in closed session yesterday, voted not to appeal the June 12, 2020 ruling by the state appellate court on the County’s Climate Action Plan. Supervisor Fletcher had opposed previous efforts to appeal this lawsuit.
Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, a Member of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), released the following statement today, after the vote was announced at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
“Climate change is a real and serious threat to our future and it is past time that our county accept the court’s repeated guidance on the law and take seriously our obligation to meaningfully address environmental concerns,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “We must rethink our approach to housing development by focusing our efforts on infill development near transit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower vehicle miles traveled, which will improve air quality and prevent the risks of building in fire zones. It’s now time to build toward a cleaner, greener future.”
