Chair Fletcher Responds to $7.03B Draft County Budget Released Today
05/06/21
The San Diego County 2021-22 Fiscal Year Budget was released today by the Chief Administrative Officer. The mo1re than $7 billion budget has areas of alignment with several of the policies initiatives brought forward by Chair Nathan Fletcher and his colleagues as part of the Framework for the Future agenda, but Chair Fletcher says now is the time for everyone to learn, engage and advocate for a final version of the budget that meets the needs of our communities.
After a summary review of the budget, Chair Fletcher released the
following statement:
“I have fought since 2019 for our budgets to reflect the needs of
our community and year-after-year we have successfully increased
funding and services to ensure our residents, especially our most
vulnerable, are being taken care of better than the year prior. The
draft budget appears to continue that trend in some areas: Behavioral
health has the largest funding allocation, more new positions for
child welfare services, 141 positions for clinicians to provide mental
health and substance abuse care in jails and $75 million for phase two
of the new Youth Transition Campus. This is a strong step in the right
direction, but there is more work to do between now and when the
budget is adopted on June 29th.”
