San Diego County supervisors to consider cannabis businesses in unincorporated areas



Growing marijuana and selling cannabis products would be legal in unincorporated areas throughout San Diego County under a proposal scheduled to go before the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday. Supervisor Nathan Fletcher’s proposal also would create a permitting process he argues could reduce the number of illegal marijuana dispensaries already operating in the county. Only five dispensaries are operating legally in unincorporated areas, and all are scheduled to close by county order in 2022. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Department has investigated 83 unlicensed marijuana dispensaries in contract cities and unincorporated areas since 2018, costing about $214,000 in manpower hours, according to Fletcher’s office.
