Supervisor Fletcher Pushes County to Increase Commitment for Critical Needs
Supervisor Nathan Fletcher after Thursday night’s Evening Budget Hearing released the following statement:
“The proposed budget is a step in the right direction, but we can more effectively address the challenges of San Diego County by increasing our commitment to tackling critical needs,” said Supervisor Fletcher. “Tonight we heard of the need to do more for the people we serve. My recommended changes to the proposed budget included increased staffing for behavioral health, public health, child welfare and community services.”
More than 600 people came from across San Diego County for the Evening Budget Hearing and over 100 of them spoke. The final member of the public concluded their remarks around 9:00 p.m. Each speaker was given two-minutes to have their voice heard by the five County Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the final budget on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 during the regular Board meeting.
In March Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the recommendations introduced by Supervisor Fletcher, and co-sponsored by Supervisor Jim Desmond, to hold an evening budget hearing. In the months leading up to Thursday’s Evening Budget Hearing, Supervisor Fletcher hosted three budget forums in his district.
